Step 1.
The Car
Before you can do anything, you firstly
have to get yourself a car. Plain and
simply, if you don't have a car, you
can't race!
You have a few options here : ( from
easiest to hardest )
Option a.
You can simply buy a
complete Wingless Sprintcar
second hand. These will range from
$10,000 for just the car, to upwards of
$15,000 with some spare parts thrown in.
This is amazing value to think that you
can outlay $10,000 for a car that you
simply
turn the key and go racing.
Option b.
You can buy a
rolling chassis
on offer from an abundance of Sprintcar
teams out there. What this means, is
that the big guys take their race car,
remove the wings, pull out the motor and
their seat and leave a "rolling car".
These car fetch in the vicinity of
$6000-$8000 depending on the age and
condition of the car. If you go this
way, you simply have to get yourself a
Holden 3.8L V6 engine
as per the rule book, and then add the
adaption pieces to fit
this engine, to the "rolling chassis".
Be warned, adapting a standard motor
from a road car will set you back
upwards of $2000 for new parts.
Option c.
The brand spanking new car option.
In this case you source a brand new
frame package ( or close to new frame )
and you put everything on it yourself. A
new frame kit can range from $2500 to
$5500 depending on what comes with the
kit in regards to the bolt-on pieces
like arms, bars etc. From here you then
fit the front end, rear end, steering
and all the arms, bars and shocks. At
this point you pretty much have a newer
version of Option b. at your disposal
and you still need to fit the engine and
the adaption pieces to get it to a
complete race ready Wingless Sprintcar.
You will find all of these options
available on classified sites such as
My105.
If you decide to go with a new, or near
new car option and build it up yourself,
visit the many Australian Motorsport
distributors like Rocket Industries,
Queensland Speedway Spares, Parr
Motorsports, Victory Lane Racegear, Max
Dumesny Motorsports and QT Race
Products.
Once your car is complete, and race
ready, you then MUST
register your car
with your state club. The contact
details can be found on each State Club
page by clicking through the logos
above.
Upon registering your car, it must be
daylighted
( or inspected ) to meet the
strict guidelines
of the Wingless class. These include
rules governing the head clearance of
the driver in the car, the measurement
and clearance of the Head Protection
Bars and many more.
