Round one of the Parr Motorsports Wingless Sprint Series fires into life this Saturday at Moama’s Heartland Raceway.
Defending series champion Dan Dubois looms as the man to beat, after winning the opening two events of the Victorian season. 2009/10 series champion Phil Micallef was the hard charger during last weekend’s Avanats, advancing to finish eighth from deep in the B-Main, while Peter Green is another driver expected to be a front runner.
James Wren won the final two rounds of the series last season and began his 2012/13 campaign with a podium result at Avalon. Luke Cole, Sam Wren and Jye Saunders all finished inside the top 10 of last year’s series and will aim to emulate that feat beginning this Saturday. Sprintcar driver Ryan Davis will perform double duty on the night, as the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series also kicks off at Heartland Raceway.
Troy Small has showed impressive car speed recently, Mark Balcombe is another former series champion in the mix, along with brother Leigh and cousin Mathew in the Heytesbury Stockfeeds entry.
Bairnsdale racers Gary Bowden and Mark Laity, as well as Glenn Jones, Kane Newcombe and Jason Langdon are all set to debut on the wide expanses of Heartland Raceway. Daniel Storer makes the long trek from Portland, while Tim Ludeman and Liam Atkinson return for the first time this season. Jake Smith and Steve Hodder both hope to have their cars ready in time after suffering major damage last weekend and rookies Luke McCutcheon and Stephen Spark make just their second start in the category.
All cars are to be in the pits by 5pm and signed-in on the series sheet by 5.30pm.
