Australian Wingless Sprints relished the opportunity to compete on Warrnambool’s famed high banks yesterday when Sungold Stadium hosted its second and final Day Show of the season.
Three heat races were taken out by Paul Drew, Jeff Judd and Bradley Warren. The grid for the 20-lap A-Main saw Warren and Drew sharing row number one, with Judd and Sean McKeever starting third and fourth respectively. Tim Fisher and Jye Saunders paired up on the third row with Ashley Hawkins in the Hibbert Motorsports #17v and Mick Rigby completing the top eight.
Warren jumped to the lead as the race went green, with Drew trying to gain an advantage on the highline to no avail, falling out of the top six before spinning and forcing a caution period.
Fisher was the man on the move early, getting into second and setting his sights on Warren in the lead. Saunders then showed his hand, passing McKeever, Judd and Fisher to take over second and move right onto the tail of Warren.
Another caution period for Tim Fisher who had made contact with the front straight wall saw Warren lead away from Saunders and Judd at the restart.
The former Australia number two was able to hold on for his first feature success of the season, with Saunders and Judd completing the podium, while McKeever and Rigby rounded out the top five.
