Wingless Sprints Tasmania officially got underway on Saturday night.
With 6 cars turning up and ready to impress the crowd they did just that.
The first heat was declared after 8 laps when first time out Brad Herbert clipped the wall coming out of turn 4 sending him into an end for end roll finally coming to rest just past the control tower. Thankfully Brad walked away, but that put an abrupt end to his night of long awaited racing, he is now looking forward to his next race, both Brad and his crew will have a bit of work to do to if they are to have the car back out for this weekend at Hobart.
Gerry Hoekstra took the first heat win setting the inaugral lap record for Wingless Sprints at Latrobe with a time of 14.91secs.
The second heat went the full 10 laps with Gerry Hoekstra also taking that heat win. With the pace being set all other drivers also had a good close race.
With two heat wins Gerry was on pole for the 15 lap final, Josh Padman was on outside pole after having to toss a coin with Scott Bissett as they both finised on equal points after a second and third each.
New drivers Terry Watson and Chris Johns were quick to show potential, becoming quicker with each lap.
All drivers have been quick to work out the setup of their cars, things can only go forward from here.
With more cars to come out over the next few meetings the racing will become close and exciting as drivers will gain more confidence with their cars.
Crowds can look forward to watching the new division grow. It is a credit to all those involved for getting Wingless Sprints Tasmania off the ground.
